Cardiff City Boss To Ignore West Ham Rumours

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was as ebullient as ever when responding to recent speculation linking him with the managerial position at West Ham if, as expected, Gianfranco Zola is ousted at the end of the season.

Jones is an outside bet, with Alan Curbishley and Steve McLaren also potential targets for the Hammers. In keeping with tradition, Jones gave no indication of his thoughts on the job, refusing to encourage or rule out an offer. As with previously linked jobs (Celtic, West Brom) Jones chose to maintain his focus on the present. He told BBC Sport:

'You're always going to get speculation and I can't stop it.'

'I'll just do my job. And everyone here is focused on what is going on here.'

'It is always nice to be linked with somewhere else as it means you must be doing something right.'

'Nobody is going anywhere at this moment in time because we have a job to do here.'

This time, it's different for the simple reason we are in the play-offs. There is a fair chance that West Ham could be relegated and the Bluebirds promoted which would make the situation massively different. Numerous clubs will have noticed the steady improvement in the Bluebirds and interest in the manager is to be expected, especially given the difficult financial position and the necessary sales of Roger Johnson, Aaron Ramsey etc
