Whitts & Chops Alone Equal Swansea City Scoring

Cardiff City are one of the freest scoring sides in the Championship and boast the division's leading scorer in former Aston Villa winger Peter Whittingham. By contrast, this weekend's rivals are Swansea City - the team whose scoring record puts them in the relegation zone.

Of course, the Swans are not in the relegation zone and have enjoyed an excellent season to date build on the bed-rock of a miserly defence. The likes of Monk, Rangel, Tate and former Bluebirds target Ashley Williams have been impressive and seen the Swans win a number of games 1-0 and look in good shape for a play-off place despite a terrible month in March.

Of the 40 games thus far this season, Swansea City have managed just 33 goals, thats a measly return of 0.83 goals per game. That statisitc puts them bottom of the Championship by some margin with nearest rivals Peterborough United having netted 39 times.

The Jacks' top scorer this season is Darren Pratley with 6 goals - 2 of those coming against us in the away fixture. Behind him, Lee Trundle has 5 goals while Cardiff born David Cotterill has 3.

By complete contrast, Peter Whittingham has amassed a staggering 19 league goals this campaign and hit the winner again on Tuesday night in the 2-1 win against promotion chasing Leicester City. Michael Chopra also has 14 goals, despite a torrid barren spell where he has netted just once in the league since January. If you add together the contributions from just those two players - you get 33 - the equal of Swansea's sum total for the squad.

The likes of Burke and Bothroyd are closing on double figures (both have 9) to illustrate the firepower available to the Bluebirds. However, this should be an intriguing match since Cardiff's potent attack will face the Swans' miserly defence leaving a goal-shy Swans strikeforce will face a makeshift Cardiff defence depleted of Hudson, Gyepes, McNaughton, Kennedy, Comminges and with Gerrard and Darcy Blake both doubtful !

AS if this match needed any more building up, it looks likely that Cardiff will need to score goals to have a chance, and Swansea will have a better chance than usual to find the net...
