Swans Lose - Unfortunately To Blackpool !

There was good news in the Championship for Cardiff City fans last night as local and play-off rivals Swansea City were handed a rare defeat, and even rarer thrashing as they were hit for 5.

With the Swans three points ahead of us, and having played a game more - last night's defeat gives us two games to make up the gap and leave Swansea looking back over their shoulders at the chasing pack. An additional benefit was to increase the already sizeable goal difference gap facing the Swans who, surprisingly remain in fifth despite a lowly +2 difference.

It wasn't all good news however because the team who beat Swansea were Ian Holloway's Blackpool - a morale-boosting win that lifts them to 7th and pole position in the chasing pack. They remain 4 points behind us, having played 2 games more.

The result gives Cardiff City a golden chance to take the initiative in the play-off race. A win against fellow rivals Sheffield United tonight would see real daylight emerge and the table look an awful lot healthier. A defeat to Sheff United brings them right into it and would suggest a nervy run-in for all concerned.

Swansea City fans, fresh from their rare defeat will be feeling an even rarer sensation tonight as many will (secretly) be hoping that the Bluebirds see off the Blades with the cost of their poor spell not yet clear.
