Whittingham Boost For Cardiff City

Whittingham Boost For Cardiff City

Cardiff City have been handed a boost ahead of two tricky away trips with the news that influential midfielder Peter Whittingham has returned to training and is available for selection in Saturday's visit to Leicester City.

Whitts had been out for several weeks with a tear to his hamstring, built up after a prolonged spell of action and a previous strain. After missing several games, Whittingham felt no aggrevation after participating in full training sessions this week and declared himself fit.

Whether he will be fit enough to start remains to be seen as the former Aston Villa winger will be lacking in match fitness. However, the lack of alternatives in the Bluebirds squad suggests that Whittingham will surely be involved with the squad if he passes a fitness test.

Whilst he had been operating in central midfield of late, suspension to Michael Chopra means that Ross McCormack would surely revert to a forward role and leave no specialist cover on the left wing. A change in formation is a possibility, or Capaldi/Kennedy/Wildig could be used as an emergency option.

Whittingham's return provides a timely boost, and any team in the Championship or any other league would be ecstatic to welcome back the division's top scorer after injury. Hopefully, Whitts will pick up where he left off and continue scoring for fun, the Bluebirds have certainly missed his creative spark and ability to add quality to our attacks. Plus it's one more fir body in a squad decimated by injury already!
