Cardiff City Limp To Valuable Posh Win

Cardiff City cantered to a 2-0 win over a desperately poor Peterborough side last night, but never really got out of second gear.

Chris Burke and Mark kennedy were recalled, while Jay Bothroyd thankfully was passed fit as he provided the assists for both goals.

It was Bothroyd who started the action, turning neatly and curling a fine low effort onto the post. Chopra was next to get a chance but blasted his shot wide and high when well placed. Mark Kennedy was seeing far too much of the ball for Caridff's liking, leading to slow and laboured attacks - however, he did provide a few decent crosses, one of which found Jay Bothroyd's head allowing CHRIS BURKE to control on his chest and neatly fire home from 10 yards.

Burke was to have another good chance and was presented with a rare heading opportunity - however, he was unable to must any real power and it remained 1-0. The Posh were creating little of their own, but did manage one free header for Boyd, the weak effort comfortbaly picked up by Marshall. In fact, the biggest moment of danger was following a horrible sliced clearance (by Kennedy's right foot) which flew fully 60 yards into the air, and dropped directly under the bar - no Posh player even challenged Marshall.

The second half saw a formation change from P'boro to go 4-4-2, but it made scant difference as Cardiff continued to dominate. It was by no means a vintage display, and better teams would have easily over-run our midfield. However, it was not to matter for this game and ANTHONY GERRARD profited from terrible defensive play to slot home after Bothroyd flicked on Whittingham's free-kick.

Chopra hit the post, before Chris Burke found side netting after Joe Lewis fumbled another Chopra effort. Peterborough's best chance fell immediately before we scored, but after decent work from Whelpdale, Boyd's contact was dismal and Marshall simply picked up the ball from the floor - instead of from his net.

A poor game, but three badly needed points. Considering we struggle against the bottom clubs it was nice to see a clear win and a clean sheet. If we'd lost, it would have been a disaster! Both central midfielders Darcy Blake (back) and Steve McPhail (chest) were withdrawn and are doubtful for the Chelsea clash.
