Cardiff City Midfielder Curse Strikes Again !

Cardiff City's beleaguered boss Dave Jones has been hit with yet another blow this week with the news that the ONLY experienced central midfielder in the squad has been ruled out by injury.

Riccy Scimeca's retirement, plus long term injuries to Stephen McPhail and Joe Ledley had left Scotsman Gavin Rae as the only established Championship player in that position. However, he has now been ruled out for a minimum two weeks with a hamstring injury so a re-shuffle will be needed.

Although it cannot be considered good news to lose any player from our current under-strength squad, the loss of Rae is likely to be reasonably well tolerated by the Bluebirds fans with Rae coming under increasing pressure after a run of poor form.

The former Rangers man is always committed and energetic, but fails to add enough to be considered a real midfield presence. In such a crucial position, we have often been outplayed while Rae offers little in the way of creativity or attacking threat.

We looked much stronger in the midfield after the introductions of Darcy Blake and Sol Taiwo last Saturday. Whilst neither looked to have a future at the club just a few weeks ago, both have shown good strength of character and decent performances when called upon in the past few games. Both these players, and fellow youngster Aaron Wildig will be hoping to break into the side, with Peter Whittingham expected to resume his central role.
