Cardiff City travel to Barnsley this weekend looking to continue their dominance over the Tykes who must hate seeing our name come up on thee fixture list following 6ardiff City wins and a draw in the 3 seasons since Barnsley returned to the Championship.
Ledley and Thompson scored in a 2-1 opening day win back in the 2006/07 season, while a 2-0 win later courtesy of Whittingham and Chopra strikes saw us do the double. The following season we drew at Oakwell (Hasselbaink, 1-1) before a resounding 3-0 win at home thanks to Parry, Ledley and a sheepish McNaughton cross that fell in. No Bluebirds fan needs reminding that we played Barnsley once more in the 07/08 season - this time at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final when the Bluebirds were victorious thanks to a Ledley hook shot.
Last season, we continued our dominance over Barnsley with a 1-0 win away from home (Whittingham free-kick) and a 3-1 home win with Ledley, Chopra and Whittingham all netting for the Bluebirds. We go into Saturday`s game with a point to prove, and a monkey firmly on the back of the Barnsley players. That said, there has been squad and managerial changes at Oakwell with Mark Robins newly installed.
Whittingham and Ledley in particular seem to like playing against Barnsley and an away win would give a big boost post International break and hopefully begin another run of form to render the 3 points dropped at Swansea irrelevant.
