Cardiff City Fans Blame Jones For Derby Defeat

Cardiff City fans had two major factors in mind when considering the humiliating derby day defeat to Swansea City. It wasn`t just the 3-2 scoreline, it was the lack of fight and pride on display by the Bluebirds players in comparison to the Swansea team - who were fired up and determined.

A recent poll on this Cardiff City website invited readers to vote for their most disappointing aspect to the defeat with manager Dave Jones and substitute Sol Taiwo those singled out by the majority:

Hudson (11%)
Gerrard (2%)
Kennedy (4%)
Capaldi (8%)
Burke (5%)
Taiwo's cameo (26%)
Dave Jones (44%)

Dave Jones maintained that this was just another three points, but many feel he has a duty to use any motivational tools at his disposal, and it doesn`t get bigger than this. On the day, his tactics were wrong and we failed to cope with Swansea`s packed midfield. The lack of changes made, the selection of Tony Capaldi on the left wing and the bizarre decision to play Taiwo on the left are the likely factors influencing fans to vote for Jones.

Taiwo also polled a hefty 26%, that`s despite playing only 26% of the game having replaced Capaldi in the second half. He was awful and looked like a lamb to the slaughter, wasting possession and barely making a meaningful contribution at all. He is obviously short of confidence, and this will have set him back further.

The Dave Jones relationship with the fans is peculiar. Many credit him for his job so far, but are becoming disillusioned with his inability to make the enxt step and his apparent disinterest and arrogance. It`s worth remembering that we are THIRD in a strong Championship league, and have suffered injuries to McNaughton, McPhail, Etuhu and McCormack - in previous seasons, the loss of those players would have crippled us yet we remain in promotion contention - for now.
