The Cardiff City Stadium hosts it`s first ever International match this Saturday as the Tartan Army descends on the capital to see Wales vs Scotland in an international home nations friendly. The CCS is a more fitting venue for Wales fans disappointed with the sparse crowds and flat atmosphere generated at the Millenium Stadium of late and hopefully there will be a buzz about the place.
In addition to the setting, Cardiff city fans will have other causes for interest during the game with 2 current and 4 former Bluebirds players in the Wales squad and hoping for caps.
Defenders Danny Gabbidon (West Ham United) and Chris Gunter (Nottingham Forest) are likely starters while youngster Adam Matthews (Cardiff City) was handed his first senior call-up. Joe Ledley (Cardiff City) and Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) both have strong calls to start in midfield, especially with the absence of Collison and Davies while Rob Earnshaw (Nottingham Forest) is hoping to benefit from Craig Bellamy`s withdrawal. Earnie scored a memorable hat-trick the last time the side`s met, and would love a repeat!
Followers of Cardiff City will know about the strong celtic links at the club, and the strong Scottish contingent that represents the Bluebirds. Goalkeeper David Marshall looks a likely starter following another injury to Sunderland stopper Craig Gordon while Ross McCormack has also been called up and hopes for some gametime. Gavin Rae`s recent demotion to the Cardiff bench sees him miss out and Blackpool`s in-form midfielder Charlie Adam was instead called-up as cover.
On current form, Chris Burke must be near to a Scottish re-call, while Kevin McNaughton`s injury problems keep him out of contention. Any hopes Paul Quinn had of a call-up have been dashed by his axe from the starting line-up and Adam Matthews` progress.
Both Nations have experienced injury problems and will field experimental line-ups. Perhaps the biggest cause for concern is Wales` frontline but with the likes of Aaron Ramsey available - we could yet be in for a good game.
