'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Solomon's Calamitous Cardiff City Cameo

Cardiff City handed only a fifth league appearance for the Bluebirds since his move from Dagenham and Redbridge back in August during the 3-2 derby day defeat against Swansea City.

He is an in-experienced midfielder with some potential but has yet to contribute positively to Cardiff City's decent season to data and was disappointing in his only start against QPR, being hauled off for an erratic distribution and poor ball retention.

It was somewhat surpriusing therefore that Dave Jones turned to Taiwo when 3-2 down in a hotly contested atmosphere at the Liverty stadium. With a Northern Ireland international striker (Warren Feeney)and the experienced Riccy Scimeca also on the bench - it was the youngster called upon to replace the ineffective Capaldi. Even more surprising was that Taiwo was a direct replacement and took up position on the left when surely every Cardiff fan expected Ledley to shift wide allowing Taiwo to fill his favoured central position. Was this some tactical masterstroke from Dave Jones?

No. It was an un-mitigated disaster as Taiwo wasted the ball every time it reached him, passing or heading aimlessly ahead and more often than not picking out a somewhat surprised Swans player. This was a truly shocking substitute appearance and if this is our chosen to option to force a goal in the closing minutes - we're in real trouble despite the various unavailable players.

Taiwo's confidence must be low, and this appearance won't help at all. Dave Jones prefers to nurture the young players and rarely over-exposes them to too much - it therefore seems likely that we wouldn't be seeing Taiwo again soon but a long injury to McPhail, and Scimec's apparent lack of fitness may necessitate his presence.

Hopefully this was a blip and we will soon see the doominant midfield performer who bossed our players when he visited with the Daggers - that was a long way off on Saturday.
