'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Weston called up by Tosh

Rhys Weston has been called up by Wales manager John Toshack for their friendly in Cyprus this week.

The Bluebirds full-back has been drafted in to replace David Partridge, who suffered a dead leg in Bristol City's 2-1 defeat at Swindon yesterday.

Weston said: "My priority has been Cardiff and I'd put international football to the back of my mind after being out of the picture for a long time.

"I'm happy with the way I've been playing after a difficult start to the season - I know there are still improvements to make but I'm comfortable.

"The Cyprus game is the start of our build-up to the European Championship qualifiers and the onus is on me to do enough to impress John Toshack."

Jerome, Loovens and Cooper are set to have late fitnes tests ahead of the match against leaders Sheffield United. Jerome and Loovens both have back problems, and Cooper is struggling with tendinitis. With Cardiff hoping to bounce back from the defeat against Leicester in the Carling Cup it is hoped all three players will be available.

'I've got one more year left with Feyenoord, but I like Cardiff very much and I hope my future is here, I prefer the British way to the Dutch way. It's more my style of playing and I'm really enjoying it. That's why I made the decision to come here, because it's more my style. I knew what British football was like because I've played against British teams.'
