Cardiff City recently welcomed back Ross McCormack, and to a lesser extent Warren Feeney back to fitness to bolster the frontline which has been hit by injuries all season. For the past 6 weeks, the Bluebirds have operated with Bothroyd and Chopra up-front (no complaints there) with only teenage striker Josh Magennis as cover. That was due to injuries keeping McCormack, Feeney and Kelvin Etuhu away from action. Injury or suspension to Chops/Jay would have left us in trouble while we suffered on several occasions with no striking options from the bench.
Now, Magennis has been given the green light to move out on loan and has jjoined up with League 2 side Grimsby Town, initially until the end of November. This is a good move for the teenager who has looked bright but raw in his Bluebirds appearances so far.
There is no doubt that Magennis has a lot to learn, and must have regular game time if he is to develop. However, his pace, energy and commitment have all shone through while he has bags of youthful enthusiasm which endeared him to the Cardiff fans in his cameo appearances. Whilst he is pacy, Magennis is a powerful striker and is decent in the air - Cameron Jerome and Didier Drogba are similar style players - though Magennis has a little way to go yet! A number of players at the club have spoken of the power Magennis can get when shooting, and he has done well for the reserves and Northern Ireland U21s in that respect.
Good luck Josh, we`ll keep an eye on the Grimsby Town scores over the next month.
