Cardiff City Praying For Bothroyd Return

Cardiff City are sweating on the fitness of key forward Jay Bothroyd ahead of our biggest game of the season so far when Newcastle United come to CCS.

Bothroyd went off injured during our first defeat against the impressive Doncaster Rovers, a result that cannot be pinned on Bothroyd's absence - but it undoubtedly had an effect. Jay has shown over the past season that he is crucial to our style of play and his contribution should not be underestimated.

Bothroyd is the focal point of our attacks, and has struck up dangerous partnerships with Chopra and McCormack. He has good strength, very quick feet and does well in the air. In defence he is also an asset and we certainly miss him when he is not available.

Fortunately for Cardiff City, Bothroyd's injury coincided with the International break - minimising the number of games he would miss - hopefully the 80 minutes at Doncaster will be all as he makes good progress with his hamstring. Dave Jones told SW Echo:

"The signs are that he will be OK to play against Newcastle United. We will wait and see how he progresses, but we hope he will be OK."

Should Bothroyd not recover in time, new loanee Kelvin Etuhu will continue to stand-in and after a further 2 weeks training with the Bluebirds - is sure to understand his team-mates, our tactics and his personal role a great deal better.
