Cardiff City Draw Aston Villa In Carling Cup

Cardiff City have been rewarded for the 3-1 wins over Dagenham & Redbridge and Bristol Rovers with a plumb tie against Europa League qualifiers Aston Villa.

A rare opportunity to visit Villa Park will now be available for Bluebirds fans after we were handed an away tie in the third round.

Whilst Villa are an excellent side and exceeded expectations last year, their slide down the Premiership table in the latter part of the season, coupled with a disappointing start to this one will have many excited at the prospect of an upset.

We have a decent record in playing Premiership sides with our style of play suited to a more skilful, passing game. Beating Middlesborough and a creditable 0-0 draw against Arsenal show we can compete while an encouraging start to the current campaign has seen us climb to the top of the Championship.

The game will likely be played on 22nd or 23rd Septemeber.
