Plymouth Argyle One To Watch: Romain Larrieu

Cardiff City travel to face Plymouth Argyle tonight with Home Park far from a happy hunting ground for City in recent seasons. A dire performance last season saw a 2-1 defeat and wholesale personnel changes for the next game so the Bluebirds will want a better performance tonight against a team looking set for a season in the lower reaches of the division.

Captain of Plymouth Argyle, and a man bang in form is French goalkeeper Romain Larrieu. The lanky stopper was voted player-of-the year last season and looks certain to be an influential player gain this campaign.

Cardiff City have begun this season by creating a hoard of chances while hotshot Michael Chopra is already hitting top gear with three goals in two league appearances. The majority of fans and pundits would back the Bluebirds to score in the vast majority of games but with a makeshift back four and lightweight midfield - we are always vulnerable to concede.

That means that the first goal is crucial, and finding a way past the in-form Pilgrims keeper could prove tricky. He is a good shot-stopper, commanding in the air and organises his defence exceptionally well. He has conceded two close range headers only this term, the sort of chances we rarely create.

An early goal to settle the nerves would be especially welcome tonight, Plymouth Argyle have a nasty habit of shutting us out and unsettling our style of play. A tricky away encounter should see us gaining a point at least.
