Cardiff City midfielder Gavin Rae has hit back at the critics who continually question the midfield of the Bluebirds and insists there is no major problem in that area.
Rae is hoping to get the nod to start against Scunthorpe United and will likely line-up alongside Stephen McPhail or Joe Ledley in the centre. Personally, I am distraught that we have failed to bring in a replacement in the centre, however Rae and ledley would be my choice to start given their more favourable chemistry than McPhail has with either.
Gavin Rae however does not see these partenrship as a particular problem. He told the SW Echo:
"I`ve taken the criticism with a pinch of salt because you have to. The one thing that does stick out for me is that I would have liked to have contributed more goals to the team last season."
"As regards me and McPhail playing together, well, we got to an FA Cup final together, didn`t we? It can work. Hopefully it can work again, but maybe last season it didn`t."
"Maybe we both didn`t compliment each other as well as we could have. But I think I can play with any midfielders there."
Dave Jones wants to bring in two midfielders as soon as possible, and is free to move following the departure of Paul Parry to Preston North End. Gavin Rae is a useful squad player, but fails to add creativity in the centre and is often criticised for failing to control a game or contribute heavily enough.
