Cardiff City Man Aiming For Top Two Spot

Cardiff City winger Chris Burke was one of the more lively players during our abysmal end to last season, while the diminutive Scotsman has continued to impress during the pre-season friendlies this year.

The former Rangers man looks a likely starter for Saturday's season opener against Scunthorpe United and his trickery and crossing could prove a decisive factor with other wide options (Ledley, McCormack, Whittingham) rarely going past their man or getting to the by-line.

Burke revealed the squad's ambitions for this season are to aim for automatic promotion and use the play-off positions as a fall back. He told the Western Mail:

"The way we are approaching things is with the aim of getting automatic promotion. When you look at it, if you set your sights on the top six you might not make the top six, but if you look at the automatic promotion places you might make that or you might make the top six instead then."

"This is a highly ambitious club. You can see that with the new stadium and the players that have been brought in. So we are looking for automatic promotion this season."

Cardiff City fans will recogniose the exact sentiments from last season. However, renewed statements of ambition are always welcome - so long as they are backed up by on-field performances. This year's team MUST be picked on form and quality and not history - for that reason, chris Burke should be one of a handful of players sure to start on Saturday.
