Cardiff City Officially Re-Sign Chopra
Cardiff City yesterday completed the signing of former striker Michael Chopra on a permanent deal from Sunderland. The move was all agreed as part of a loan deal bringing Chops back on loan last season, but could go through courtesy of the transfer window opening yesterday.
Chopra's move has broken the Bluebirds' transfer record after surpassing the £1,7m paid to Stoke City for Peter Thorne. The exact financial details regarding Chopra's switch are unclear given Sunderland still owing money for the original deal, a loan fee for Chopra's services and the money we have now paid. However, the value of the deal seems to be somewhere between £3-3.5m.
Chopra was already training with the rest of the squad but is now a fully fledged Bluebird again. He will be desperately hoping to put last seasons' troublesome heel injury behind him after struggling badly at times. He did not look as sharp or clinical as previously but will surely benefit from a lengthy rest and full pre-season behind him.
Chopra will compete for the striker's positions with Ross McCormack and Jay Bothrouyd unless Dave Jones does the unthinkable and switches from a 4-4-2.
