Cardiff City's Latest Summer Transfer Targets

Cardiff City have been fairly quiet on the transfer window front of late with Dave Jones currently on a family holiday and Peter Ridsdale jetting between continents and meeting with potential investors in the USA. It`s also fair to say that Jones and Ridsdale are oft likely to wait and bide their time in the transfer market. However, the policy has not worked out too badly in the case of Ross McCormack while Gabor Gyepes and David Marshall have both been swift moves and clearly been on the Bluebirds 'wanted list` for some time.

Despite our lack of action, a number of players have been linked with the Bluebirds and with the exception of persistent whisperings of Ryan Giggs joining - it`s fair to say the rumours seem realistic and genuine transfer targets.

Perhaps the most unlikely is the enduring rumours of a return for West Ham and Wales defender James 'Ginge` Collins. We are certainly in the market for a new centre-half and he has struggled with injuries. I just can`t see it happening!

Two further Norwich City players are being linked following the Canaries` relegation. Midfielders Lee Croft and Sammy Clingan both look likely to make a move to the Championship and we have been strongly linked with both.

MK Dons defender Miguel Angel Llera also looked to be a possible signing but remains unproven and looks likely to stay in league 1 with a move to Charlton probable.

Liam Miller is a free agent following his release from QPR. The Irish midfielder was formerly at Sunderland and has struggled with commitment and discipline problems. However, he remains a talented player and Dave Jones has previously done well to get the best from similar players.

Flying winger Dave Martin is a player we have definitely watched in action and the talented winger would provide a creative outlet on the left as well as adding some much needed pace and guile However, City will surely be thinking twice with a price tag of £1m+.

With Bothroyd, Chopra and McCormack all expected to be at the club next season, it seems likely Dave Jones will opt for a season-long loan to add to his striking options. However, there have been links to a former target in Kenny Cooper - the big American was a previous target and came close to a move. More likely, and more exciting for Cardiff City fans is a potential move for Victor Anichebe of Everton. The Nigerian is a promising talent but unlikely to feature regularly for the Toffees as their injury crisis abates. Talk of a season-long loan deal used as part-payment for A Joe Ledley transfer seem a real possibility.

More to follow as silly season continues….
