Cardiff City's Best Form Of Defence Is.....Attack!

Cardiff City are charged with the simple-sounding task of avaoiding defeat to a team with nothing to play for on Sunday as a draw would see us home and into the play-off's at Preston / Burnley's expense.

Our recent form has been worrying to say the least with 11 goals leaked in three games. This begs the question as to whether we should set out for a 0-0, backs-to-the-wall style and play for that draw.

This is not a good plan! Of course, our defence must be solid and if we keep a clean sheet - we succeed. However, 90 minutes under pressure against players with no burden is a risky tactic and one we are not well suited for.

McPhail, Burke, Parry, Quincy or whoever makes up our midfield on Sunday are certainly not defensive minded players. In McCormack and Chopra we have two of the most deadly finishers in the league with Bothroyd a potent threat in the air or on the deck. Take a look at our full-backs....Kenney is a winger in his first season in the back four, while McNaughton is attack-minded and loves to roam forward.

In short, we must stick to the style that has seen us so hard to beat this season and served us well. To conced the first goal would be a massive blow, but we're asking for trouble by altering our style for one match. I've heard suggestions that Purse should be re-called in a three man defensive unit with Scimeca sitting in-front - madness!

If we play as we are capable of, we will win. We only need a draw so mustn't give Wednesday any freedom or encouragement. We know what we need to do and remain in the driving seat - this is not time to panic - it's time to BELIEVE !
