Cardiff City All Quiet On The Quincy Front

Cardiff City enjoyed an exciting January transfer window with the likes of Chopra and Chris Burke joining. We also signed Quincy Owusu-Abeyie on loan from Spartak Moscow with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season. This was seen by many as a real statement of intent and we looked forward to seeing the Ghana forward in action.

Quincy joined us part way through a trial with Tottenham Hotspur following the end of his spell with Birmingham City where he impressed. Manager Dave Jones said that Quincy had made 'sacrifices' to join us and was impressed by his desire and commitment. Cardiff City fans were obviously pleased with his capture and with Chopra, McCormack and Bothroyd in pole position to play up-front it seemed likely Quincy would take up a left-wing role as he had done previously to good effect.

That has not materialised and Quincy has yet to start a game for the Bluebirds. He played the majority of the match against Norwich City following an injury to Darcy Blake. However, he was largely ineffective although the entire team struggled for rhythm and he had little possession as we lost 2-0. A half against Southampton in another away defeat gave Quincy a chance to impress. He had a few moments but was again starved of possession.

During the final 15 minutes of a 3-1 victory against Barnsley, Quincy did get a chance to shine with the Tykes a man down. Quincy found space, looked comfortable in possession and showed a few tricks as he caused problems for Simon Davey's side. Two curling efforts were well saved and Quincy showed a good attacking threat on our left.

Since then, Quincy has made no appearances and has not even made the bench in recent weeks. He did travel to Charlton Athletic midweek but still did not feature after Dave Jones` expected shake-up. There are strong rumours of a falling out between he and the Cardiff City coaching staff. He wants more chances understandably but it has been suggested that his application in training is not as impressive it could be. It seems Quincy expected to start the majority of games, but has been disappointed and not reacted in the best way.

Many Cardiff City fans expected Quincy to play a big part in our run-in and cause problems for opposition defenders. There is growing support for the former Arsenal man to get a chance ahead of Parry and Whittingham with neither wideman playing anywhere near the best of their form. With a view to a permanent move, Quincy is running out of time to impress and win a contract for next year.
