Next-Up Barnsley: Consistently Inconsistent !

Cardiff City play host to Barnsley tonight desperately hoping to get the promotion charge back on track with a morale-boosting win. Conversely, Bansley will try to extend their own mini-run which has seen them pull clear of the relegation dogfight - for the time being at least.

After being myred in the relegation zone during the first few months of the season (the Tykes won just one of their first nine games), Barnsley have improved to a low-mid table position. However they are by no means safe and could yet face an uncertain Championship future if they revert to their losing ways.

Consistency has been lacking for the Tykes. indeed, prior to a recent haul of 7 points from 3 games - they had actually lost four games on the trot, scoring just one goal and conceding nine.

Goals are a real problem for Barnsley with winger Campbell-Ryce and Jon Macken leading the goalscoring with just 6 apiece. The lack of a proven goalscorer is what sees them struggle given that their goals against is suprisingly healthy while they have failed to score on 15 occasions this term.

Statistics show that if Barnsley go behind, they often struggle badly. Twice this season they have gone a goal down only to win but on 15 other occasions they ended up losing.
