Cardiff City Slump To Saints Defeat
Cardiff City slumped to a frustrating 1-0 defeat away at Southampton and again failed to find the net and lacked a creative spark in attack. The game itself was peculiar with Southampton playing like the away side, breaking quickly and allowing us possession at the back. Nevertheless, we were poor and after going a goal down early on - we did not recover.
It was a cross from the right hitting Mark Kennedy that gave Saints their penalty. It was slightly harsh but the initial mistake was not closing down quickly enough. McGoldrick made no mistake from the spot. It seemed the sort of penalty you only get at home, that seemed even more likely late on when Perry gained a clear advantage by handling hack to his keeper - there is no justice but we still cant complain.
The problem was that City were cumbersome yet again and lacked spark. We had several great chances but Kelvin Davis was in fine form to deny Johnson, McCormack and Ledley. Eddie Johnson also fired a late shot over when well placed.
Our 13 game unbeaten streak was ended by a side who didn`t play anything like a relegation threatened club. Problem being, we played nothing like a promotion chasing one….
