Cardiff City Options After Bothroyd Injury Worry

Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd limped off the field after half an hour of Sunday's clash at Wolves with a calf strain and is struggling to be available for tomorrow's match against QPR. Dave Jones could bring in Burke, Quincy, Whittingham or Eddie Johnson in his place with a number of players capable of partnering Chopra in the Bluebirds attack.

Bothroyd has been very good for Cardiff City and after a slow start has chipped in with some important goals. His style suits our play and he is able to hold the ball up and win his fair share of aerial balls. Most impressive is his skill and strength on the ball, a nightmare for defences but brilliant for the likes of McCormack and Chopra.

On loan Fulham man Eddie Johnson is the like-for-like replacement in our squad, i mean that in terms of stature and style of play rather than impact and contribution - the USA International has done precious little to justify his massive wages and looks consigned to a minor role in our promotion charge. McCormack and Chopra in attack is a tempting option, though one that Jones seems wary off while Paul Parry or Quincy are also strong candidates.

Personally I'd bring Burke onto the right, Parry on the left and Rosco and Chops up-front - Quincy to come on and cause havoc with his pace after an hour.Jay Bothroyd is a big loss, he is the single player whose role in the side is rucial to the way we play - and the one player we do not have adequate cover for. Adaptations will be needed for tomorrow night, but with the quality throughout the side and in attack we should be able to cope. At present Jay is rated as 40% likely to play.
