Cardiff City fans were deprived once again of their Saturday afternoon football fix but many will have had one eye on the other fixtures in our league as the Championship promotion and play-off race gathers pace.
A number of clubs were in a position to do us a favour today and Southampton in particular have done us proud. The Saints are struggling near the foot of the table but pulled off an excellent 3-1 win over Preston North End who started the day one position above us - they stay 2 points ahead but we now have FIVE games in hand on the Lilywhites.
If you know any Coventry City fans, you may want to buy them a drink tonight after the Sky Blues pulled off a terrific 1-0 win over Birmingham City now 4 games and 9 points ahead of us. Reading in third place were also defeated but this result was a double edged sword for City as the result moves Bristol City two points ahead of us.
Norwich City and Plymouth Argyle both led but settled for creditable draws against Burnley and Sheffield United respectively to help the Bluebirds cause.
The only result that went completely against us was a victory for Swansea City over in form Doncaster Rovers. The Jacks went a goal down early but took control and won 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium. The Swans are now level on points with us (but have played an extra four games).
Ipswich Town and QPR played later, the Tractor Boys keeping alive their hopes of a play-off place but favourable holding up the Hoops' charge.
All in all, not a bad day for City - results could not have been too much better for us and its now over to the players to see what we can do against table-topping Wolves!
