Scimeca Tastes First Cardiff City Defeat In Year

Cardiff City midfielder Riccy Scimeca came on as a second half substitue during City's 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal on Monday night as he continues his long recovery from thigh and ankle problems. Scimeca has barely featured in almost two years for the Bluebirds and the 33 year old is out of contract at the end of this season. He is unlikely to force his way ahead of Gavin Rae or Joe Ledley in central midfield and his age, and fitness problems raise serious doubts as to his future.

However, Monday night was the first time this season that Scimeca has tasted defeat with his other five appearances ending in two wins and three draws for the Bluebirds. Before that, you have to go back to April last year for Scimeca's last defeat in a Bluebirds shirt when our next opponents Wolves beat us 3-0 at Molineux while our eyes were firmly on an FA Cup final.

Riccy won't be lining up against Wolves, and if injury/suspension did strike - Stephen McPhail would surely be re-called into the midfield, while emerging youngster Darcy Blake also has a shout for a call-up - that means Scimeca could be restricted to a handful of late subs appearances in his bid to win a new contract.
