Whitts Is Back - Surplus To Cardiff City Needs?

Cardiff City winger Peter Whittingham looks set for a welcome return to the matchday squad having returned from a hamstring injury, the former Aston Villa man is back in full training and ready to make a first team comeback.

However, things have changed from previous seasons and after a busy January transfer window - it`s difficult to see how Whittingham will feature in this new look Bluebirds squad!

Historically, Whittingham has been kept out of his favoured left-wing position by Welshman Joe Ledley - a hugely influential and key figure in our midfield. Joe has now moved inside to a more central position - and looks set to continue. That would suggest added chances for Whitts, but Paul Parry has been doing a good job in that role while the recent capture of Quincy casts doubt on Whittingham`s ability to force his way in on the left.

Not to worry though, as Whittingham has adapted over the past year and had found a new home on the right of the Bluebirds` midfield - allowing him space to pick passes and seeing him cut inside onto his left foot with devastating effect - However, during his absence, Cardiff City signed another midfielder, and for the first time in a long time - a natural right winger in former Rangers man Chris Burke. Burkey has made a promising start to his City career and currently owns the shirt in that position.

Assuming Quincy and Burke are favourites to take the wide positions, that leaves Whittingham and Parry vying for places on the bench - but with McPhail, Comminges, Capaldi, Chopra all adding quality and versatility - things could prove tough….!

Good article. I suggest Parry will get the nod ahead of Qincy - at least for now. Witts is well out of contention
