'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Watford Man Critical Of Cardiff City's Chances

Cardiff City showed strong interest during ther transfer window in signing Watford player Tommy Smith, reportedly lodging a £1.5m bid for him. This was rejected by the Hornets after new manager Brendon Rodgers named Smith as key to the club's survival.

Watford star Smith has now revealed he would not have considered a move to Cardiff City anyway, deciding that it would be a sideways step and that the Bluebirds promotion ambitions are not yet proven. Smith told the Watford Observer:

'I didn't feel Cardiff at this particular time was the right move for me.'

'If I did move then I would want to make a move which was a forward step. It is quite hard mid-season, in January now, to guess who is going up or is going to have a bad run, so it is hard.'

Instead, Smith will now face an uncertain time trying to save Watford from relegation. Few expected the Hornets to be in such a tough fight for Championship survival but credit to him for sticking it out and trying to improve his current clubs fortunes.

Few Cardiff City fans will lose sleep over Smith's comments. We look set for a real play-offs chance and are yet to give up on automatic promotion. Following Watford and Smith's rebuttal, we moved to sign Michael Chopra from Sunderland - not a bad piece of business!
