Former Cardiff City striker Steve Thompson is certainly finding his feet at new club Burnley having left the Bluebirds for our Championship rivals earlier this season. Thommo has now netted four times in 2 games following his brace to dump West Brom out of the cup last night.
Thompson was a popular figure at Cardiff City and made a lasting impression on the fans with his gutsy and determined performances. He was 100% committed and always played for the team rather than himself. Bluebirds fans willed him to do well but a lack of goals hindered his progress and impact at CCFC and it was clear Dave Jones was not happy with his contribution so a move always looked likely.
Thommo is clearly enjoying being that little bit closer to Scotland however, and has rattled in 8 goals so far for Burnley - that`s an impressive strike-rate! A goal against us was inevitable, and came courtesy of a tremendous slice of fortune but Thommo is a good professional and deserves his success.
I fail to see how having Eddie Johnson on our bench, coming on for injury time in most games is better than having Thommo, especially with his reported £15k per week wages, but it never really happened for Steve at Cardiff City - not through lack of effort!
