Cardiff City Outplay Coventry To Grab Vital Win

Cardiff City grabbed a priceless three points tonight at the expense of hard working Coventry City and will be delighted at many aspects of their play.

In a bright opening, Cardiff had the greater possession and created a few half chances. However it was the Sky Blues who had the best opportunity when Enckelman pulled off a very good save to deny Freddie Eastwood. City then took control and created two excellent chances for McCormack, one saved and one scuffed shot going wide.

Cardiff City took a deserved lead through former Coventry City striker Jay Bothroyd. His initial header was saved but Jay was on hand to smack home the rebound.

Chris Burke was proving a constant threat, and Parry was lively - it was a slight suprise that Cardiff went into the break only one ahead.

After the break saw more of the same, with Eastwood and McCormack trading efforts. It was the Bluebird who was to prove decisive however after being played in by the impressive Gavin Rae, he coolly slotted home through Westwood's legs for a 2-0 lead.

Roger Johnson was on hand to clear off the line as the Sky Blues pressed. The Bluebirds began to look tired, Burke, Bothroyd and the injured Roger Johnson were feeling the pace while Joe Ledley was withdrawn as a precaution. Coventry City were enjoying much the better of things and hit the post through Mifsud.

Cardiff City had a few decent chances on the break, McCormack and Burke seeing efforts well saved but despite tiring - we held ontO the clean sheet and can be rightly proud of the performance and the win.

Coventry City 0-2 Cardiff City
