One consequence of Cardiff City's FA Cup tie on Sunday is that we were given an extra day to receover and as such sat out last night's Championship action before tonight's trip to Coverntry City meaning we could see how the other teams around us fared.
We now have 2 games in hand on most of the clubs around us and there were some welcome and unlikely bonus results last night.
Crystal Palace lost to rock bottom Charlton Athletic, the Eagles would have closed to within 2 points of us had they won but the Addicks pulled off an unlikely win. Just as suprising was Doncaster Rovers pulling off a win away at Sheffield United, 2 points and 2 places above us - Thanks Donny!
To continue the theme, Burnley were dished out a 3-0 hammering by Watford - the same Watford who started the day in 21st place - the Clarets were one place and two points behind us.
Unfortunately it was not all good news for Cardiff City fans with QPR, Birmingham City, Reading and Ipswich all winning to put pressure on the Bluebirds.
The stand-out result of the night though was Swansea City's impressive 4-1 victory as the Jacks run into an ominous spell of form and look the team to beat at present. The one saving grace was that they thrashed Preston North End for us sitting directly above us in the table.
All these results mean little unless we can get a result tonight - we are certainly capable but must be on our game against Chris Coleman's men.
