Arsenal's Ramsey Suffers On Cardiff City Return

Sunday's FA Cup tie between Cardiff City and Arsenal saw the return of one of the brightest prospects to ever play for the Bluebirds in the shape of teenage midfielder Aaron Ramsey, selected for his new club Arsenal having joined over the summer.

Prior to the game, Ramsey was given a warm reception from the Bluebirds fans, doing the ayatollah on request, and when the Gunners team-sheet was read out to a chorus of boos, these abated and were replaced by applause for the Gunners number 16 - Aaron Ramsey.

During the game however, Ramsey was roundly booed and seemed to suffer. He was playing in an unfamiliarly deep role and his confidence and creativity suffered as he passed sideways and waywardly on occasions.

Ramsey was replaced on 58 minutes by the imposing figure of Abou Diaby, and the Welshman again did the ayatollah in the dug-out. It was a game to forget from a footballing perspective for the youngster, but an emotional one all the same.

Arsene Wenger spoke of Ramsey in his post match press conference:

"He`s young and it was a very emotional day for him."

"I think the occasion got to him a little bit. It is tricky to come back to your home town for the first time and sometimes he tried to overplay."

Ramsey has shown enough in his time at Arsenal to justify the £5m price tag. He has impressed fans and his manager and surely has a big future ahead of him at the club. He could now face his former club again if selected for the replay at the Emirates Stadium.
