Cardiff City Man To Keep Focussed & Fighting

Cardiff City's club captain Darren Purse finds himself in a familiar but frustrating position as he again finds himself 3rd choice centre-half and surplus to requirements.

After a frustrating year last season when Loovens and Johnson kept him sidelined - Purse regained his place only to lose it Hungarian Gabor Gyepes after a squad re-shuffle. Since then Purse has had to wait on the bench, or even in the stands as his difficulties continue.

Purse is out of contract at the end of the season, with Darren Dennehy also waiting in the wings - he may not be offered a new deal. Purse said:

'As we go into the new year it's my intention to do all I can to regain a first-team place.'

'I feel I proved what I can do in the early part of the season and I relish the chance of being given that chance again.'

'All I can do is stay focused and hope the opportunity comes.'

Ironically, at the beginning of the season - Purse was playing as well as he ever has in a Cardiff City shirt. However, after an error allowing Plymouth's Emile Mpenza to score, Purse was dropped - a decision he did not agree with and is back in the old predicament awaiting injury, suspension or a lapse in RJ's or GG's form.
