Former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage could be in-line for a rare appearance when the Rams come to Ninian Park after the change of manager handed a fresh start to the former Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City battler.
Savage had been frozen out under previous boss Paul Jewell, but the Liverpudlian has been succeeeded by Nigel Clough and the new boy intends to give Savage a fair chance to resurrect his career.
Savage was a Premiership regular with Rovers before leaving to aid Derby's fight against relegation but after 18 appearances he has not made an appearance this season save for a loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Savage is a controversial figure, often revered or hated by his own team's fans - and despised by all others. Fans of Wales have a further reason to know of Savage after a well publicised fall-out with National boss John Toshack - early in Tosh's reign. Savage criticised the methods, and quit the International game in protest. A proud man, Savage now regrets the outburst and has not played for Wales since.
Cardiff City fans would no doubt have a special reception for the blond-haired veteran and after a 5 minute cameo for Derby County in their win over Manchester United (where he spent time as a trainee) - Robbie will be hoping for a place in the matchday squad for the Cardiff City game.
