Cardiff City face Derby County at Ninian Park on Saturday and the Rams have today appointed a new manager to guide them from the precarious situation they are in at the lower reaches of the Championship.
That new man is Nigel Clough (see Vital Derby for details), son of the legendary Brian Clough and the Derby board, players and fans must be hoping he can muster some magic worthy of his father's record to rescue the Rams from another dismal season following their relegation from the Premiership last season.
Cloughie leaves former club Burton Albion and would probably have hoped for an easier opener to his Derby County tenure than a trip to Fortress Ninian. The Bluebirds have notched up 4 consecutive victories at home, and are unbeaten in 6. The 1st of November saw our last defeat, when Wolves pulled off a 2-1 win - only they and Birmingham City have won at NP this season and we are in good form - climbing to 4th in the table following a good Christmas period.
Derby County are not to be under-estimated - they were in the Premiership last season and have some very good talent. We must also be wary of 'new manager syndrome' - and the appointment of Clough is likely to be a popular one as players and fans wait to see what he can do.
