Hull City Emerge As Cardiff's Rivals Over Chopra

Cardiff City could face another obstacle in their efforts to re-sign Michael Chopra on loan from Sunderland after Hull City Phil Brown turns to the diminutive striker in an attempt to bolster the Tigers' firepower.

Hull have impressed in the Premiership this season but have faltered slightly of late. Key to that slump has been some poor defending and an inability to find the net regularly. They have struggled to find a regular partner for Marlon King with fomrer Cardiff City target Daniel Cousin and veteran Dean Windass scoring just 4 league goals between them this term.

Sunderland's new boss Ricky Sbragia has hinted at a squad trim at the Black Cats and with the strength of their striking department - Chopra is a likely candidate for an exit. If Hull City are prepared to stump up £4m for Chopra's services - they would immediately become favourites to sign him and simultaneously deny Cardiff City an extra £250k from a clause activated if Chopra makes 3 more starts for Sunderland.

Chopra clearly enjoyed his second stint with the Bluebirds and cut a forlorn figure waving goodbye to the fans following our 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle. He previously stated he was open to a Cardiff City return - but if a permanent offer came in from Hull City - the pressure from Sunderland and his Premiership ambitions look certain to send him to the KC Stadium.
