'Absent Eddie' No Cause For Cardiff City Concern

Cardiff City were able to name seven substitutes for Saturday's FA Cup 3rd round clash against Reading. That meant using up almost our full squad complement in the matchday party but a noticable omission was any striking options available on the bench.

McCormack started the game in place of Chopra, the Sunderland man recalled to Sbragia's new reign at the Black Cats. McCormakc partnered Bothroyd in attack but in terms of changing things in attack - there were few options despite the 7 subs named.

Eddie Johnson was not named on the bench, later we found out this was due to personal reasons. A family member was taken ill whilst Eddie was on a Christmas break back in the USA. He is still not back, but has cleared his absence with Dave Jones and will return to training as soon as possible.

Eddie Johnson is not the answer from what we have seen, neither is switching Paul Parry to a forward role. Both appear to be short-term solutions and with Johnson yet to find the net in the UK, and Parry netting just once in the league - we cannot hope to achieve promotion so lacking in firepower.

City chiefs remian hopeful on a Chopra return, but must start working on a back-up plan. We need another option, one who is known for scoring goals - of course that is a rare commodity but to be taken seriously we cannot survive with one goalscorer in the squad - McCormack. Bothroyd is a good player, and has done really well this season, but confesses he is not a natural finisher.

We need someone, over to you Jones and Ridsdale.
