Cardiff City were denied a brilliant away victory away at Reading today when Royals goalkeeper Adam Federici stabbed home an equaliser with the last kick of the game.
In a breath-taking match, both sides had chances during both halves as the game was played to a highly charged atmosphere and tempo. Chopra went through on goal only to collide with Federici while Ledley missed the target early in the second half when well placed. Reading were also causing problems with an Ingimarsson free-kick and Peter Enckelman produced an astonishing save to deny Kevin Doyle.
Cardiff City looked to have won it late on when Michael Chopra reacted quickest to a Routledge knock-down (yes you read that right!) and Chops finished brilliantly from a tight angle.
However, in the 5th added minute (of 4 announced), Reading forced a corner and as the ball hit McNaughton on the line, Federici was on hand to hammer home the equaliser. The Bluebirds were stunned, Johnson, Kennedy, McNaughton and Gyepes were immense. Ledley and Rae industrious but a point here is still a good result, and we can say we matched the best in the division - and outplayed them at times.
This game was a superb advert for Championship football, great skill, endeavour and commitment on show. Few teams escape the Madjeski with any points, it was the Royals who escaped today and the Cardiff City players, and the fantastic support can be very proud despite the disappointment.
