Jones & Burton Blast For Ledley's Agent

Cardiff City's manager and assistant manager have both spoken out against Joe Ledley's agent David Baldwin after comments made to BBC Sport last week in which Bladwin strongly suggested Ledley would see out his Cardiff City contract before leaving on a free transfer.

Terry Burton immediately questioned the comments, suggesting Bladwin had perhaps just left a Christmas party! Now Dave Jones has also commented, telling BBC Sport:

'Joe's agent has come out and it would be nice if he spoke to us and tell us what his intentions are.'

'But this is something we have to live with, so it should be what we want to do and what Joe wants to do.'

Rumours are rife that Ledley could well be leaving in January with Everton and Stoke City amongst those known to be interested. While you might expect Ledley's agent to be attracting interest in the hope of scoring a large transfer bonus, Baldwin seemed to suggest relations between club and player are not brilliant.

What is not in question is Ledley's passion for the club, he has captained the side recently and it was clear how much his goal against Swansea City meant to him. I can't see him leaving the club for nothing having spent 11 years as a Bluebird - we would be entitled to compensation but that would come nowhere near the transfer fee the Welsh Internation could command.

Cardiff City are keen to enter talks to extend Ledley's contract and Ridsdale did speak to Baldwin regarding this on Saturday. Perhaps these comments have been exaggerated and were aimed only at speeding up negotiations. A long term contract with good wages and a minimum fee release clause, around £6m would surely suit all parties.
