Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was expected to revert to form in selecting midfielder Stephen McPhail on Saturday, the Irishman having completed a 2 match ban for a sending off against Swansea City and available for selection.
Paul Parry seemed the likely man to miss out with Ledley reverting to a wide left role allowing McPhail to slot into the centre alongside Gavin Rae. With McPhail in poor form this season, he is very rarely dropped or substituted and has become known as an 'untouchable' at the club and one through whom all our play goes.
However, after a win against Preston North End, and a very good performance away at Burnley (2-2) - Dave Jones made the tough call and left his skipper on the bench. Ledley and Rae certainly didn't let the side down with an industrious performance in midfield while Paul Parry has been reborn over the past few weeks and is causing all kinds of problems to defenders.
With Ledley and Rae, we look balanced, solid and have more attacking intentions. Ledley covers more ground than McPhail and is happier going forward - the first half we played some exceptional football and certainly deserved the lead.
With Purse, McPhail and Scimeca all out of favour, we are down to our 4th choice captain but Joe Ledley is filling the void brilliantly and 7 points from 9, all against play-off contenders inlcuding two tough away trips - is a very good return.
