Familiar Faces As Cardiff City Travel To Plymouth

Cardiff City make the trip South for tomorrow's game against Plymouth Argyle and will come up against some familiar players currently at Home Park.

Chris Barker was a Cardiff City player for several seasons during the Sam Hammam era - we paid a hefty 600k for the left back and despite being a consistent performer he did not quite make the impact fans had hoed for until a brief loan spell at Stoke City saw him return fitter and full of confidence. 'Chewy' went on to be player of the season for the 2004-05 season but Dave Jones was never a big fan of the full-back. A loan spell at Colchester Utd followed before Barker moved to QPR on a free transfer. Barker was a good player, and did well for Cardiff City - he is likely to receive a good reception from our travelling fans.

Simon Walton came to Cardiff on loan from Charlton when Scimeca first got injured. He was extremely poor despite a decent reputation but spent most of his time suspended after collecting 2 red cards and a yellow in his 6 games for the Bluebirds. Following his departure, Walton angered fans by posting seemingly unpleasant comments about the club on his MySpace page - though he later denied this. Walton shouldn't expect a warm reception from the travelling Bluebirds.

Steve MacLean was a Cardiff City player for a brief period last season. He was a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday but missed a penalty (the first of his career) on his Blubirds debut and never recovered. MacLean certainly didnt enjoy his time with the club and suffered a crisis of confidence, losing all attacking instincts and showing a poor touch before a 500k move to Plymouth to rejoin former boss Paul Sturrock. The deal represents one of the best transfers in recent Bluebirds history!
