Cardiff City's Guadeloupe International Miguel Comminges was a free transfer summer acquisition from Swindon Town. Initially thought of as a full-back, Comminges spent virtually the whole of pre-season playing in a wide midfield role.
Since then, injuries to first Capaldi, and then Kennedy had left a vacancy at left-back which Comminges filled although unconvincingly at times. Many fans and critics have pointed out that Comminges does have numerous strengths but the weaknesses he also shows are key attributes for defenders.
I have worried about his concentration and positional strength but have no doubts he is a useful squad player. The recent injuries to Whittingham and Ledley look set to hand Dave Jones a chance to play Comminges in what may become a more natural position for him.
A decent crosser (better on his right foot!), Comminges is a busy player whose tenascity and determination should add more bite to our midfield. He is unlikely to beat his marker with skill but pace and strength could see him do well on the wing. It is noticable that he is dificult to dispossess by opponents, again suggesting he may be more comfortable in midfield.
If Jones does not see Comminges as an option, Mark Kennedy and Parry could take wide roles with Darcy Blake slotting in at the back although judging by the pre-season games - Comminges will play on the right with Parry on the left.
