Cardiff City Beat Lacklustre Barnsley 1-0

Cardiff City produced a breathtaking start and completely dominated a sleepy Barnsley side in the first half. City looked far sharler than their hosts and took the lead in the 14th minute with Peter Whittingham converting after a Parry left wing cross.

Roger Johnson and the re-called Ross McCormack both had chances to double the lead while Parry forced an excellent low save from Luke Steele.

However the Bluebirds failed to increase their lead and whilst they should have been out of sight by half-time the lead remained a slender one giving the Tykes renewed hope.

Barnsley pushed on but were undone by a lack of quality. Cardiff defended resolutely but in truth Barnsley rarely threatened. Diego Leon had a chance well saved, but was offside anyway. Odejayi went close with a header and Brian Howard hit a rasping 25 yard drive narrowly over.

There's no doubt that Cardiff City deserved to win, and a third consecutive clean sheet is a welcome bonus. However the inability to put this game to bed is a worry and better sides than Barnsley would have come back much stronger. Still unbeaten, first away win and into the play-off positions.
