Cardiff City Man Parry In Shock Retirement

Cardiff City winger / striker Paul Parry has suprised many this week by announcing his immediate retirement from International football. The timing of the decision is unfortunate at best, malicious at worst with Wales due to play a crucial qualifying match away at strong favourites Russia tomorrow.

Parry's decision comes on the back of an unusued substitutes role against Azerbaijan on the weekend, a game Wales won 1-0 thanks to a late goal by Sam Vokes.

The Bluebirds player had been out of International consideration for 18 months for 'personal reasons' and was shown considerable faith by John Toshack who immediately picked Parry on his return. Again Parry missed that call-up for personal reasons, but did return to the squad this week. After not playing, he has now decided not to travel to Russia and has quit.

Parry scored 1 goal for Wales, a headed goal in a friendly vs Canada.

I sympathise with Paul - to have a couple of younger strikers put on before you, must have sent out a signal that presumably John Toshack didn't mean : that Paul simply wasn't part of his plans .. and when Paul was told he would be playing against Russia he should have seized the chance, but Toshack's insistence on leaving it to one (tiny) forward - Earnie - against Azerbaijhan suggests he hasn't got his attacking ideas sorted out (despite being a great forward in his own playing days!).
