Cardiff City's promising youngster Darcy Blake has signed a new contract with the club but fans will be hoping this is a different case to the deal signed by Aaron Ramsey to guarantee a fair price shortly before he was sold (and ward off interest until the summer).
Blake, like Ramsey, has risen through the academy to break into the first team on a squad rotation basis. He is also an important member of Brian Flynn's Wales U21 set-up.
Blake is primarily a ball-winning midfielder but lacks the physique to play in that position in the Championship at the moment. However, he is extremely versatile and has also played centre-back, right midfield and both sides of defence for the first team. Most of his action has come as a fill-in right back, including during the 2-2 draw against Norwich City recently.
In that game, Blake showed some excellent touches and intelligent play but was found lacking on his positional play and was guilty of gifting possession on several occasions. Nevertheless, his excellent pin-point pass to Jay Bothroyd helped set-up the opening goal for Ross McCormack and Blake cetraintly seems a youngster with a bright future.
