Cardiff City have a very tough looking game against promotion hopefuls Sheffield United to look forward to this weekend, at Brammall Lane.
Already, we have struggled in defence and conceded goals in every game so far, including disappointing goals against MK Dons, Southampton and Doncaster Rovers. Add to that, the fact that Glenn Loovens left recently for Celtic and things aren't looking brilliant in that department.
Next came Kevin McNaughton, injured and out of the Scotland squad - he missed the draw against Norwich City and yesterday's win over MK Dons. In that game, Darcy Blake took the right back berth while Tony Capaldi returned for his first appearance of the season after injury. Both were forced off the field in the first half with further injuries.
That means we have only Miguel Comminges as a natural full-back - and he's been only a bit part player so far, spending most of pre-season on the right wing!
It seems likely that if injuries persist, Comminges will play at right-back with Joe Ledley or Mark Kennedy (both wingers by trade) at left-back. Should McNaughton return - it would be a massive boost.
As fans we have absolutely no say in the matter, and Dave Jones will never go for it BUT if we are struggling - why not give Gyepes a game at the back as part of a 3 man defence? That way, Ledley and Comminges could operate as wing-backs and both would surely be more comfortable. Its not ideal to swap formations, but we have days to work on it and, Mr Jones, it never harms to have a plan B !!!
What do you think? Is 4-4-2 the only option for our squad? Should we stick to what we know and try to make do until the injuries abate? What about the youngsters like Morris or Adam Matthews? Let Us Know!!!
