Loovens Leaves Cardiff City For Celtic

The protracted speculation regarding Glenn Loovens' future at Cardiff City can now be finally put to bed after Glasgow Celtic agreed a deal with the Bluebirds beating rivals Rangers to the defender.

Loovens is an excellent player, and will surely have a future in the top flight. At 24 he is still experienced, commanding and reads the game superbly. It will inevitably come as a disappointment to Cardiff fans but in reality the price, £3m, was too good to turn down for a want-away player able to leave for nothing next year.

Loovens cost £250k from Feyenoord having spent a year on loan at Ninian Park previously and centre-back is a strong position for City. Dave Jones has an excellent track record for unearthing defensive talent with Purse, Loovens and Johnson all proving astute signings.

Purse will move alongside Roger Johnson but there will be money to spend on a replacement. Darren Dennehy, recently signed from Everton will provide immediate cover in the meantime.

Best of luck Glenn. It was refreshing to hear so little from a player and he showed good respect to the club and fans.

Good luck to the boy. He deserves it. But in terms of finances, are we going to ever see this 3million? That's plenty of cash to find a decent replacement. I just can't see it happening..

Half of that will be made available for certain. Expect to see a transfer fee maximum of £1m. Loovens' wages were lower than most of the squad but the replacement is unlikely to be

Good Luck - as least he recognises what CC has done for him.

We also have to pay Feyenoord 25% of the transfer fee, for the add-on or something? Oh well.. I'm just being negative. Also, I thought he was keen on the Premiership? Maybe he had cold feet..
