Cardiff City Confirm Cooper Interest

Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has admitted our strong interest in MLS striker Kenny Cooper as our search for a 'big target man' continues.

As things stand - we have had an offer, thought to be between £1m-£2m accepted by the MLS league, who hold the player's registration. Scandinavian club Helsingborg are also interested but City appear to be leading the chase at the moment.

Kenny Cooper is 23 and 6'3' tall. He is a former Manchester United reserve and currently plays for FC Dallas.

Cooper is expected for talks in South Wales this week, and hopefully will be impressed by the new facilities, stadium and ambition. The search has gone on long enough and we could really benefit from having our striker train with the squad for as long as possible before the season starts.

One added bonus is that Cooper is currently mid-season in USA, and is already match fit. Unlike Fowler and Hasselbaink last season, he wouldn't require months to become 'match fit' and could play straight away depite missing the pre-season tour.

If we got Kenny Cooper it would more than make up for the loss of the tired, clapped-out, old has-been, once-were, lags, Fowler, Hasselbaink, and Bent, and when Boyd said he didn't want to come to us anyway, Ridsdale and Jones were right to forget him. It seems that Ridsdale has learned to keep quiet until signatures are on paper and we only learned about Cooper because the Americans revealed the situation. So all credit to our managemnt team. Let's hope that 1. Cooper actually turns up this week and 2. signs up .. because all this publicity has certainly alerted other clubs to the possibility ..

what cardiff should do is say, we are looking to buy mark kennedy(our own player) for £5m, then hopefuly and more than likely birmingham will not even notice who he plays for, they will just give £5m away

genius! Maybe they'd even include McSheffrey and Jerome - looks like they were so gutted about McCormack they went all out to steal Bent - lets hope we got the better option!
