Cardiff City Sign Kennedy Amid Fans Disappointment

Cardiff City have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Mark Kennedy after the player agreed terms and completed a medical yesterday. Primarily a left winger, the signing has been received with shock and disappointment by Cardiff City fans with other areas seen far more important for strengthening.

Given hope by a £2.5m bid for Rangers' Kris Boyd, Bluebirds fans were not overly pleased to hear our new signing was a 32 year old left sided player, another of Dave Jones' 'old boys' and who played his last competitive game in November 2007 - making just 7 appearances for Crystal Palace last year.

Cardiff City Chairman Peter Ridsdale has already hit out at fans' expectation levels recently, and played the wages and availability card but took the predictable stance of defending the new addition. He told the Western Mail:

"I am not particularly interested in the glamour of our signings, I am much more interested in getting this club promoted next season."

"We need a squad of 22 players to compete properly in the Championship and Mark is a welcome addition to that squad."

"He is an experienced pro, an experienced international and will add some competition which we need. He can play on the left, but also in the centre of midfield where we need more bodies available."

As a squad player, someone like Kennedy is OK. It's not a terrible signing but it seems more than likely he is there to 'make up the numbers' and if thats the case he should be a defender or a right winger.

This signing smacks of someone 'becoming available' and being known to Dave Jones, was snapped up immediately. I'd love to be prvoed wrong and have Kennedy as a revelation, providing creativity, goals and experience from midfield. However, unless someone from Ledley, McPhail, Whittingham and Parry leaves - I can't see him getting much of a chance.

Hasn't Whittingham just signed a new contract?

He'd be good cover for Whitts, Ledley or Parry. To be honest, I don't know much about Mark.. but Ridsdale is right.. we need a squad of players to cover for injury etc. He has Premiership experience which is a bonus.
