Former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler has accrued huge wealth through wages and investment in property. Fowler joined Cardiff City last year hoping to score the goals we desperately needed.
That didn't happen as Fowler missed pre-season, spent 2 months trying to get fit then needed multiple operations on a dodgy hip.
The club stuck by him, paying for treatment and he has spent more time working with the physio and Alex Armstrong than any other player. On the back of this, the club maintained their desire to keep him and still see Fowler as a 20-goal per season forward.
He was offered new terms, though less lucrative and based on performance. We were told he wanted to stay but there has been no news or progress on the negotiations. Now it seems Fowler is ready to turn his back on us and join Dubain outfit Al-Ahli where he can pick up a massive salary once more and cash-in on his reputation rather than his quality.
The club has already budgetted for Fowler to be here, and play regularly next season. That means that that cash becomes instantly available but would fund only a free transfer signing. That is unless pooled with the cash available from Ramsey's sale where we could sign a proven goalscorer to partner Ross McCormack whilst Steve Thompson would also remain at the club as cover.
Blessing in disguise perhaps....
